Claire Rimmer is a MYP/IGCSE/DP Visual Arts Educator & Visual and Performing Arts Subject Leader and joined GEMS World Academy (Singapore) in 2014.
Claire originates from the United Kingdom and has been an international teacher for 19 years, after initially enjoying 3 years teaching in Leeds in the UK. Claire started her journey into education by embracing the diversity of an Arts Foundation Course at Cumbria College of Art and Design and then graduated from the University College, St John’s York (BA Hons) with a major in Product Design and a minor in Printmaking. She went on to complete a PGCE in Secondary Education specialising in Design Technology and has enjoyed teaching a mixture of both Design Technology and Visual Arts ever since. Before moving to Singapore seven years ago with her family she taught Grades 6-12 in two international schools in Qatar, Middle East where she held the position of Head of Visual and Performing Arts for 8 years.
Claire is passionate about being an educator and considers herself very much a lifelong learner; a trait she encourages all her students to embrace. Currently, Claire is the Subject Leader for the Arts and also teaches MYP and DP Visual Arts. She thoroughly enjoys the diversity and challenges that each course brings. Claire is an active participant in school productions, charity work and sporting events. She is excited about the IB Career-related Programme at GEMS Singapore and the connections it brings with the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).
Claire’s husband Paul is the PYP Coordinator and Grade 5 teacher, their two sons are GEMS students in the Secondary Years. Claire used to be an active rugby player and currently coaches girls’ Touch Rugby teams U12, U14 & U 16and plays in a local touch league. She is self-proclaimed chocoholic, loves traveling and exploring new places.
