GEMS students made us very proud at the ISTA Primary Years Festival!
The festival took place over the weekend of 15 - 17 March. GEMS (Singapore) students gathered with students from AIS and Tanglin Trust to work in ensemble groups.
They experimented with various theatre skills and styles as they played with the devising process. We had a fantastic weekend which included inspirational speakers, dance, 'trashion shows', ensemble work exploring the journey of their own and imaginary shoes, an immersive theatre created by high school theatre students for the primary kids (they loved it!!!)...and the list goes on!
Here are some quotes from the students' reflections:
I gained confidence by leading my ensemble members and students from other schools. In school, if I wanted to say something, I didn't want to raise my hand to say it, but here I feel like I can share and it's easier to speak out. I got more courage.
I learned that your old shoes can tell a story. I learned that the shoes keep all your stories on them. I also learned that the shoes can take us anywhere.
Our students shone with their positive attitude, open friendliness and the growth they made over these few short days. What a great experience!
No matter what happens, embrace everything and make something new from it. You won't always work with someone you want to, but make the most of the opportunity.
