Precautionary Measures Against Novel Coronavirus (2019-ncov)

As you may be aware there has recently been an increase in reported cases of Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). We would like to reassure you that we are closely monitoring the situation, as well as taking advice from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ministry of Education (MOE) on best practice to ensure the health and safety of our community.

The following measures have been put into place at GEMS World Academy (Singapore) and we are most grateful for your support and understanding in observing them.

Temperature Screening

In accordance with GEMS (Singapore) procedures, policies and our proactive approach to ensuring the health and safety of our community, temperature screening is currently being conducted for all visitors and members of the school community (parents, students, staff etc).

Travel Declarations

Given the escalation of virus transmission, we are requesting travel declarations from all visitors to the school, including GEMS parents and visitors.

New visitors to the school will be required to complete a travel declaration form upon entry to the campus. To support the wellbeing of our community we would ask any members of our community who have visited mainland China to observe Leave of Absence (LOA) as stipulated below.

Leave of Absence

On 31 January 2020, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that all individuals who have travelled to mainland China within the past 14 days are required to take a 14-day leave of absence (LOA).

The following steps have been taken to ensure the safety of all students, parents and staff at GEMS (Singapore):

  • All staff, students and school visitors who have returned from mainland China after 15th January 2020 are required to remain home for a 14-day period to prevent the possible transmission of infections. Please note that this period of absence is from the date of return to Singapore.
  • During the period of absence, individuals are asked to monitor their temperature and health closely.
  • GEMS (Singapore) will provide students with various online resources to ensure that their learning is not disrupted.
Safe Hygiene Practices
  • Extreme diligence has been maintained with cleaning and disinfecting the school every day. All classrooms, work surfaces, common areas and highly trafficked areas are cleaned and disinfected every day.
  • Access areas such (doors, lifts etc) are cleaned twice a day.
Suspension of All Outdoor Activities

We have further enhanced our measures by suspending all inter-school activities and external activities until the end of March. This includes various Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA’s) on and off-campus, Open House sessions and group events for prospective parents.

Otherwise, the school is fully operational and welcomes individual visitors and small groups to the campus (below 10 pax). Please contact the respective departments to schedule your appointment in advance.

Self Prevention and Education

In order to protect yourself and your family members, as well as the greater school community, we remind you to follow best practice guidelines:

  • Please encourage your child to practice safe hygiene by regularly and thoroughly washing their hands. Our teachers and nurses will be providing further education and support for our students with this and other hygiene practices.
  • Use hand sanitizers, they have been placed in all major traffic areas.
  • Please keep your child at home from school and seek medical attention immediately if you notice any symptoms of respiratory illness or elevated temperature of 37.5°C or above.
