As you may be aware there has recently been an increase in reported cases of Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). We would like to reassure you that we are closely monitoring the situation, as well as taking advice from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ministry of Education (MOE) on best practice to ensure the health and safety of our community.
The following measures have been put into place at GEMS World Academy (Singapore) and we are most grateful for your support and understanding in observing them.
We are implementing online home learning for students from Nursery to Grade 12 as part of the strategy to cope with COVID-19. The students will remain at home from Monday, 23 to Wednesday, 25 March (both dates inclusive) while studying in a virtual learning environment with the direction and support of their teachers. In preparation for home learning, all Primary Years students will be provided with iPads.
Thursday, 26 March and Friday, 27 March will continue as planned as per the letters sent out to parents from the Principals. The following two weeks remain as planned school holiday period.
The Singaporean government has outlined new travel restrictions including criteria for a Stay Home Notice (SHN) period. Check on travel restrictions before you fly overseas and familiarise yourself SHN regulations.

Given the escalation of virus transmission, we are requesting travel declarations from all visitors to the school, including GEMS parents, staff and visitors.
New visitors to the school will be required to complete a travel declaration form upon entry to the campus.
All families and staff are required to submit Travel Declaration Forms if they are planning to travel outside of Singapore from now till 31 July 2020. Information will be kept strictly confidential. It will only be used for contact tracing ie. in the event when there is an emergency/crisis/disaster.
In accordance with GEMS (Singapore) procedures, policies and our proactive approach to ensuring the health and safety of our community, temperature screening is currently being conducted for all visitors and members of the school community (parents, students, staff etc).
On top of existing measures for temperature taking, we will now put in place processes and protocols to identify and ensure students with any symptoms such as cough, sore throat, or other respiratory symptoms, do not attend class. At the points of entry to our school, everyone will be asked to declare if they have any symptoms. To ensure the well-being of students on campus, symptomatic students or staff will not be allowed on campus and will be asked to see a doctor immediately. Parents of affected students will be notified to pick up their child from school.
On 31 January 2020, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that all individuals who have travelled to mainland China within the past 14 days are required to take a 14-day leave of absence (LOA).
The following steps have been taken to ensure the safety of all students, parents and staff at GEMS (Singapore):
