You may have heard that GEMS World Academy Singapore has joined XCL Education. We are excited to announce that the change of ownership will pave the way to further growth developments for the school to ensure a brighter future for students, staff, and community members.
In alliance with XCL, we are on a mission to take our school to greater heights by sharing in the capabilities, energy, thirst for innovation and focus on the student that XCL has accumulated over years of management team experience in operating premium educational institutions around the region.
XCL Education is a forward-thinking group of private and international schools, kindergartens, and academic enrichment programs based here in Singapore, serving over 20,000 students across Southeast Asia.
It is the ethos of XCL to prepare students for the jobs of the future and to help them find their way in an ever-changing future, where technology and human skills will play increasingly complementary roles.
We are thrilled to share that we have identified new offerings, initiatives, and improvements to strengthen our school's academic and extracurricular offerings, building upon the strong educational foundation that has been laid at this school over the past years. Over the coming months, we will be planning and rolling out many school enhancements, including:
University & Career Guidance will be introduced, starting from Grade 8, a first in Singapore. A highly experienced counsellor has been brought in to help students start early in Grade 8 to learn more about their interests, talents, and passions and explore education and career pathways. Starting this process early ensures that our students have a long runway to explore, research, and experiment in order to confidently make fully informed decisions about their future.
Introduction of unique Mandarin Bilingual Programme starting in August 2021 for Pre-K, KG1, and KG2 – in addition to a daily Mandarin programme in the Nursery years - – in addition to a daily Mandarin programme in the Nursery years.
We are developing a student-run eSports programme. This first of its kind offering will allow our students to not only explore eSports for recreation and vocation but also develop critical skills such as leadership, teamwork, and discipline. We are in advanced talks with some of the leaders in the eSports industry to help support and drive this programme.
We are expanding academic pathways, and we are finalising a partnership with a top global business school for college-level credit programmes, open to both IBDP and IBCP students.
The nursery school day will be matched to the rest of the school, making life easier for parents with children. With a choice of a half-day programme (8:45 am to 1:30 pm) or a full-day programme (8:45 am to 3:30 pm), our youngest learners are provided with flexibility and many exciting learning opportunities.
We are planning a new daycare programme starting with our Full-Day Nursery and Pre-K students* from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm at no additional cost for the first year.
*This offer is NOT available to Half-Day Nursery and Pre-K students.
For students whose first language is not English, we are enhancing our EAL programmes to be more robust, comprehensive and personalised by offering more assistance to students who need it the most. We are also reducing EAL fees.
Separated streams for IGCSE and MYP will be introduced, and subject offerings in MYP and IGCSE will be expanded over time to include business, physics, chemistry, biology and the arts. Giving parents and students flexible options to select learning tracks while enjoying a wide base of academic course offerings.
The MYP eAssessment will be introduced to allow students in the middle years to demonstrate key skills and be awarded the IB MYP Certificate. The MYP eAssessment is purposefully designed to reflect the flexible curriculum framework in the MYP. It serves as an equivalent alternative to other types of examinations for Grade 10 students, pushes students well beyond the rote memorisation of subject-specific content, and lays a solid foundation for the rigorous IB Diploma. Improving the way we monitor our students’ educational progress helps them prepare for key milestones.
Our school will be host to the XCL Dialogues and Author’s Series; we are delighted to have Tom Wright, a Pulitzer Prize finalist and a New York Times best-selling author as a resident author.
Subject to approval from authorities, new tennis courts, running track, baseball and cricket batting nets will be introduced over the next academic year.
We are planning to build a dedicated and purpose-built new High School Block with age-level appropriate specialist classrooms. This block will include a large and dedicated IB DP student common area and highly unique specialist areas, including university and careers counselling centre, science labs, an e-sports arena, computer coding labs and next-generation technology-equipped classrooms to accommodate hybrid learning models. Additionally, there will be general enhancements throughout the campus over the coming 24 months.
We hope you are excited about the plans we have in place, as much as we are. We firmly believe that we will become the flagship school in the XCL group and the international school of choice for progressive, cutting-edge education for our community. We are delighted to have you with us on this exciting journey!
