At GEMS (Singapore), we believe that the key to early education is to provide children with a warm, safe environment where they feel comfortable to explore and learn confidently. As such, we have created a Reggio Emilia inspired educational space focused on providing children aged two the best possible start to their education journey.
We encourage all areas of the child's development while recognising and meeting the individual developmental of the child within a happy, caring and stimulating learning environment. We aim to provide creative, engaging and age-appropriate play-based activities to promote the wellbeing and social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of all our nursery children. Imagination, creativity, curiosity and confidence are the cornerstones of a child's experience and progress at our school.
Our small class sizes and an inspiring and highly qualified teaching faculty ensure the children are getting the best possible care at this vital stage of their learning journey.
We believe that a low student-teacher ratio can make a substantial impact on your child’s education. This is why we’ve created a safe space in all our classes by limiting class sizes to just 14 children in the Nursery. All classes are facilitated by the full-time teacher and a fully qualified teaching partner in order to get to know every child, tailor activities to their individual needs, bring out the best in them and encourage greater participation in class.
Our teachers help to foster a lifelong love of learning in your child and guide them to become a successful, confident, well-rounded and caring global citizen.
With a choice of a half-day programme (9:00 am to 12:30 pm) or a full-day programme (9:00 am to 3:30 pm), there is flexibility in their schedule to offer our Little GEMS time to explore their imagination, be creative and self-discovery. Provided with their special entrance and educational area our Little GEMS arrive each morning and are temperature checked before entering their classroom. All of our children eat in a dedicated room together enjoying morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack times in a socially engaging environment.
Play is one of the most fundamental ways in which young children gain essential knowledge and skills. For this reason, we strive to ensure that your child benefits from varied and well-directed early learning opportunities through their involvement in a wide range of carefully planned educational play-based activities in a new and vibrant environment, both indoors and outdoors.
Each day brings a variety of exciting learning experiences related to the following developmental areas:
Communication & Language (English & introduction to Mandarin)
Gross & Fine Motor Development
Social & Emotional Development
Mathematics Discovery (Science)
(Music, Dance, Drama & Visual Art)
Children benefit from opportunities to develop their early communication skills in relation to their social skills, development of play, comprehension and expressive language skills.
We encourage children to take an active part in the variety of play-based activities arranged for them and to experiment and refine their theories on what causes things to happen.
Our teachers support each child's emotional wellbeing, ensuring that they are confident to take part in new activities and work with others, as well as develop a positive sense of themselves and respect for others.
The development of self-management skills is necessary for a child's future independence. Children are supported in Increasing independence in eating and drinking, expressing needs in changing a diaper or using the restroom, handling zippers and large buttons, experimenting with putting on and taking off pull-over clothing, performing simple chores such as picking up and putting away toys, etc.
We fully support children in developing research and observation skills to encourage creativity and enable meaningful discoveries.
We value the importance of establishing a solid partnership between home and school. Our learning journey with your child is a partnership, a triangle involving the child, parent and teacher. Good communication is vital in the care and education of our students. There will be a range of opportunities for involvement from reading to cooking together with your child.
We encourage families to speak directly to class teachers face-to-face. Both the class teacher and teaching partner can be reached via their respective email address. All classrooms have telephones in case of urgent communication. And through our digital tools, teachers can post videos and photos of your child's Nursery experience, providing feedback on how your child is progressing and communicate important information to you. Our individualised and child-centred approach goes far beyond just education. Our teachers help to foster a lifelong love of learning in your child and guide them to become a successful, confident, well-rounded and caring global citizen.
