Performing Arts in the Festive Season

Snow Worries at Marina Bay Sands

Some of our very talented students auditioned and were selected to perform in this year’s Christmas pantomime at Marina Bay Sands.

We are so very proud of Avaana Harvey (G9), Angelica Who (G8), Marilena Kolokotsa (G7), Oliver Main (G7), Asia Jones (G6), Serita Vargoczky (G6), and Elliot Main (G4), and it was wonderful to see so many teachers, parents and fellow students in attendance to support and enjoy the show.

It was indeed a fun-filled, family-friendly, merry-making, belly-shaking, chaos-embracing, time-racing, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-illiant show. In the style of the great British tradition of pantomime, with a heroic escapade and a happy celebration with heaps of audience participation in between, our students gained some very valuable real-life, professional-level, large-scale production experience.

They attended many long hours of rehearsal and held their own singing, dancing and acting amongst some of Singapore’s most talented children and alongside international, professional, invited guest artists sharing the stage.

We would also like to thank the parents of those students who joined the production for supporting this after-hours opportunity and expanding our student’s artistic horizons. They were excellent ambassadors for GEMS World Academy (Singapore).

GEMS Voices – Service in Action

An excited group of Grade 3-5 students enjoy coming along to the GEMS Voices ECA each Tuesday afternoon. They have been working particularly hard on their choral and performance skills and wanted to share the joy of singing with some people who may not have the opportunity to listen to songs.

They took action and we found an Elderly Day Care Centre that said they would love to have us sing. We went with our Santa hats and bells and entertained the folk at the centre to spread some Christmas and holiday cheer.

The elderly people joined in some of the singing, especially the Christmas carols. What a wonderful opportunity it was to see service in action from our GEMS Voices. After singing, they invited us back and we look forward to going back again and sing for them again.

GEMS Voices at Eden Hall

We were delighted that GEMS World Academy (Singapore) was invited to sing at the annual Christmas Carols event on Thursday, 14 December 2017, hosted by the British Association held at Eden Hall. Eden Hall, the British High Commissioner’s residence in Singapore, is a beautiful house at any time of the year but in the run-up to Christmas, it becomes positively breathtaking!

This was such an honour, that we invited some of our GEMS Voices (PY ECA) and some Secondary School singers to join the group.

Our students, ranging from Grade 3 to Grade 10, sang one performance item, “African Noel” and lead the invited guests in singing traditional Christmas Carols. Avaana Harvey (G9) performed the iconic solo for “Once in Royal David’s City” and Marelina Kolokotsas (G7) recited the poem, “Christmas Past”.

It was a truly special event and our students, singing acapella in three-part harmony, alongside students from across Primary and Secondary age groups, did us proud.

Happy Holidays to everyone!
