GEMS Jaguars Sports Update

Season 2 has so far brought us a series of mixed results across our teams. The 12U boys Basketball team have emerged as the best performers to date with a set of close wins, while the frequent bad weather has made it frustrating for our football and touch teams unable to play several scheduled matches.

As we continue to develop our competitive sports program here at GEMS (Singapore), a big part of this is developing the mindset of our students so they understand the responsibilities that come with being a team member.

This takes some time and is certainly a characteristic that all team coaches should have in the forefront of their coaching philosophy. Expectations have to be made clear and then followed up with consistency and fairness to ensure that each player understands the importance of this to the whole team.

It has been noted that in the past few weeks several players have not been attending team training, and have failed to communicate their absences to their respective coaches. Please take this opportunity to remind your children that if they are selected to represent GEMS World Academy (Singapore) Jaguars in a sports team they are required to meet the following expectations:

  • All students selected for a school team are expected to attend every team training and be available for all team matches throughout the season.
  • All players must be in full team uniform for all fixtures. Players will not be able to participate if they do not come prepared with the full and correct team uniform.

Season 2 will continue after the holiday break until 10 February 2018.

Season 3 sports will commence 26 February.

Secondary Years Sports Day

Secondary Years students will end Semester One with their Sports Day on Wednesday 20th December.

All students will be involved in basketball, football, and longball games and some track and field events.

Homerooms will compete at grade level and also as part of a house to decide the grade level and overall champions.

Students are encouraged to dress in suitable sports clothing in their house colours and be prepared to play hard for their teammates.

The Parent Teacher Community (PTC) will be selling iced lollies and cut fruit during the lunch break for $1.00 each, (cash only) so bring your money to get some healthy energy snacks.

Wishing you all a safe and active holiday break.
