GEMS (Singapore) is committed to recognising and supporting student excellence. With a commitment to balanced education opportunities, our rigorous and academically stimulating International Baccalaureate (IB) programme enables students to view the world from different perspectives, examine various points of view and see themselves as part of our changing world community.


 

Coverage


We offer full and partial tuition scholarships (reviewed annually), for students who display outstanding ability and attitude across a range of disciplines.

Type Category Example
A Overall academic excellence (Secondary Years students only) A student with sustained excellent overall academic results in all subject areas.
B Exceeding in an academic discipline A student who has demonstrated excelling in an academic discipline by, for example, achieving an outstanding result in an academic competition, such as Math Olympiad.
C Accomplishments in the Arts A student who has actively participated in the Arts beyond the school curriculum and life.
D High performing athletes A student who is an accomplished performing athlete beyond the school sports programme.
F Community service A student who has demonstrated making a significant impact on community service beyond the school’s CAS and service projects.
  • Scholarships are available to new and existing students at GEMS (Singapore)
  • Four levels of scholarships will allow for tuition fee reductions of 25, 50, 75 or 100%
  • Scholarships cover the Tuition Fees. Scholarship recipients will cover the costs of any incidentals such as uniform, books, ELP trips and educational visits.
  • The Registration Fee and Admission Fee will still apply but other administration costs will be waived.
  • A family can only receive a maximum of one full scholarship per family (ie 100% fee reduction).
  • All scholarships are awarded for one year and may be renewed if all original application requirements have been met. This includes the conditions:
    • The recipient has maintained the academic achievement level appropriate to the type of scholarship awarded.
    • There has been no disciplinary action at the level of a suspension or greater.
    • The school has received a scholarship renewal request by the published due date.
  • The scholarship can be revoked
    • at any time should the school determine that the application included false statements.
    • if the scholar fails to meet the required expectations of the scholarship award or noticeably fails to keep up with the level of his or her capability.
    • if the recipient fails to be a role model for their peers and does not demonstrate a high level of commitment to their studies. At least one formal warning in writing will be given to the student and the parents prior to the withdrawal of the scholarship. In the case of extreme disciplinary measures, the scholarship may be revoked without any prior written notification.
  • All scholarship decisions are made by the Scholarship Committee which consists of the Head of School, Early/Primary Years Principal and Secondary Years Principal and is final.
  • Children of employees or children of relatives of employees of GEMS (Singapore)
  • Families who already have a scholarship or other form of a grant for the same child, awarded by other public or private entities, unless these scholarships or grants are specifically stated beforehand in the application. In the latter case, GEMS (Singapore) may decide to grant the remaining sum necessary to cover 100% of the enrolment fees.
  • Beneficiaries will be completely or partly exempted from paying the school fees and under no circumstances will the scholarship means that money payments will be made to the beneficiary.

Scholarship applications by currently enrolled GEMS (Singapore) students must be fully completed and submitted by the deadline published on the GEMS (Singapore) website.

Students applying as a new enrolment to GEMS (Singapore) may apply for a scholarship at any time prior to enrolment. In addition to completing the scholarship application, all new students are required to pay the registration fee and complete the standard application process for the application to be reviewed.

  1. Complete the scholarship application form and submit a copy of previous school reports/certificates/transcripts
  2. Attach the required personal statement (essay), completed in the student's own words
  3. Attach Principal’s or Teacher’s recommendation
  4. Submit additional portfolio/documentation

The quality of personal statement and all additional supporting documentation will be considered in addition to the scholarship type-specific criteria below. Only fully completed applications meeting the scholarship type criteria will be considered.

Type Category Criterion descriptor
A Overall academic excellence (Secondary Years students only) Students with outstanding academic achievements in the past two years. (Please note that more emphasis is placed on recent school performance.) GEMS students should achieve their overall scoring at least 6 (as the final IB grade) or equivalent on average in all subjects.
B Exceeding in an academic discipline Students with outstanding academic achievements in all subjects scoring at least 5 (as the final IB grade) or equivalent in the past two years AND with demonstrated repeated achievement on an extracurricular competition or formal, external, activity endorsed by a recognized body.
C Accomplishments in the Arts Students with demonstrated excellence in the Arts in the past two years. Excellence varies from talent to talent and the Scholarship Programme Committee will take the uniqueness of each talent into account when considering the application. In addition, an Art applicant should achieve a minimum of 6 (as the final IB grade) or equivalent in their Art subject for the past two years.
D High performing athletes Students with demonstrated excellence in sports in the past two years. Excellence varies from talent to talent and the Scholarship Programme Committee will take the uniqueness of each talent into account when considering the application. In addition, a High Performing Athlete applicant should achieve a minimum of 6 (as the final IB grade) or equivalent in their Sports/PE subject for the past two years.
E Community service Students with demonstrated significant sustained contributions and impact to community service over the past one year as a minimum. In addition, a Community service applicant should achieve a minimum average of 5 (as the final IB grade) or equivalent across all subjects.

For students currently enrolled at GEMS (Singapore)

  • Scholarship applications by currently enrolled GEMS (Singapore) students must be fully completed and submitted by Wednesday, 11 March 2020 (no later than 5:00 pm)
  • Short-listed candidates will be notified on Monday, 16 March 2020 and invited for an interview
  • The final announcement of scholarship recipients will take place on Friday, 17 April 2020

For students NOT currently enrolled at GEMS (Singapore) 

  • Students not currently enrolled at GEMS (Singapore) can apply for a scholarship at any time.
