Mike Gilmour is the Deputy Principal of the Early and Primary Years division and joined GEMS World Academy (Singapore) in 2015. Mike has over 14 years of education and corporate leadership experience which he brings to his pedagogical leadership position within the organization.
In addition to his 8 years of international education experience in Singapore, Mike has also held leadership and teaching positions in the United Kingdom and South Africa. Mike has a Master of Education degree, specialising in Educational Leadership and Management, which he obtained from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.
Mike is a sought after speaker and regularly speaks at education conferences and seminars throughout the region. He is passionate about education and the power it has to transform lives and communities, and he places a high priority on developing relationships and rapport within the workplace. As an experienced IB educator, Mike brings his perspective and experience from both the classroom and single subject teacher perspectives to his leadership responsibilities at our school.
Before entering education, Mike served as the National Director for an international children’s sports and education charity in Africa. The organization, which is headquartered in the United States, has over 500 000 children participate in its programs annually throughout the world. Under his leadership, the organisation in Southern Africa grew from 128 participants in one location, to over 10 000 participants in nearly 70 locations within four years.
Mike has continued his philanthropic passion in Singapore where he serves as the chairman of the board of a Singaporean children’s charity.
Mike is married to Sandi, and they have two children, Madison and Jack.
