The Early Years Programme at GEMS (Singapore) is designed to lay the foundations for a love of lifelong learning. Through our child-centred approach, your child will be given the opportunity to drive their own learning and follow their interests, whilst developing key strengths and abilities. Your child will be engaged in play-based experiences that allow them to make connections to what they already know and encouraged to ask questions, reflect, and update their understanding of society and the world around them.
Safe and welcoming place to learn
Providing an engaging, developmentally appropriate and safe learning environment that supports each child’s natural curiosity is integral to everything we do at GEMS (Singapore).
We recognise and value that your child’s emotional and social well-being is shaped from a very early age. We also know that your child is most likely to become a confident learner when in an environment in which they feel secure to express themselves without fear of judgement.
We create this safe space in our kindergarten classes (Pre-K – KG2) by limiting class sizes to just 16 children. This allows the full-time teacher and teaching partner in your child’s class to get to know your child and tailor activities to their individual needs to bring out the best in them.
The Early Years building is equipped with facilities and numerous resources that were designed with younger children in mind and is created to provide them with accessible and engaging spaces in which to flourish.

Our Early Years teachers work as a supportive team that continually responds to every child’s evolving hunger for new knowledge and interests. Our teaching teams create and adapt the classroom environment to generate higher levels of engagement and reflect the children’s shared ownership of the learning spaces.
The learning experience that your child will have with us is driven by the pedagogy, beliefs and values of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) which is a leading curriculum framework for international primary education. The IB PYP is designed for children aged 3 - 12 and focused on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. The PYP takes a transdisciplinary approach to various subjects - Languages (English and Mandarin), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music and Physical Education. In a transdisciplinary learning environment, students learn across through authentic and relevant activities across subjects within a given context and develop agency as they are actively involved in learning, making connections between learned concepts the world around them and independently applying knowledge.
Nurturing independent learning skills, and encouraging every student to take responsibility for their learning, the PYP at GEMS (Singapore) develops students’ academic, social and emotional well being, while simultaneously focusing on international-mindedness and the development of strong personal values.
We provide our Early Years students with a holistic learning experience that integrates social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. Our learners are engaged in stimulating inquiry-based curriculum. We provide learning experiences that are meaningful, inclusive and multi-sensory, in order to raise your child’s natural curiosity and interests through a number of engaging units of inquiry. The foundations of Mathematics and Literacy are also firmly laid here to prepare your child well for entry into Primary School.
In the PYP, learning is viewed as a continuous journey, where teachers identify students’ needs and use assessment data to plan the next stage of their learning. Teachers use a wide range of assessment strategies to collect information on each of the elements represented in the written curriculum: the understanding of concepts, the acquisition of knowledge, the mastering of skills, the development of positive attitudes and the ability to take responsible action.
