Early/Primary Years Deputy Principal Message

It has been an action-packed two weeks back at GEMS World Academy (Singapore) since the Chinese New Year break.

Last week we celebrated Language & Culture Week throughout our school and it was a wonderful continuation of our Chinese New Year celebrations.

As an international school, we pride ourselves on being a diverse and accepting community where all nationalities and cultures are welcome.

Every day we are privileged to witness students from different cultures and backgrounds playing together on the playground and collaborating within the classroom.

These daily interactions between students, staff and parents from diverse backgrounds form the foundation of our school, and it is definitely something worth celebrating together.

During Language & Culture Week we had a wide range of activities on offer throughout the community.

Dances, singing, stories and food all formed part of a fantastic celebratory week. In addition to the various celebrations, it was great to see the meaningful connections made to our Primary Years curriculum (PYP), especially connections made to global citizenship and action.

Community celebrations of this nature expose our students to real-world examples of language and culture which they learn about during their units of inquiry.

This week we celebrated literacy through our annual Book Week.

There was a great variety of exciting opportunities available for our students both inside and outside of the classroom. As a school, we highlight the importance of reading on a daily basis and Book Week gives us yet another opportunity to highlight this important element of education.

Finally, I would like to thank all of the members of our parent community who contributed so valuable over the past two weeks. It has been a wonderful two-week celebration and without a doubt, the students have benefitted immensely.
