MYP/IGCSE Design Teacher

GEMS World Academy (Singapore) is seeking a dynamic, experienced and flexible Secondary Teacher (Grades 6-10) of MYP/IGCSE Design. This is a full-time position from 1 August 2018.

Preference will be given to teachers who have relevant subject-specific IB MYP experience, as well as a clear track record of superior teaching in international school settings.

Head of Educational Technology

The Head of Technology strategically plans, implements and evaluates the use of new and varied technologies from pre-k to grade 12 at GEMS World Academy (Singapore). This role reports directly to the Head of School but is responsible for supporting the Principals of each division of the school so that a high quality curriculum related to technological skills is implemented effectively.

The Head of Educational Technology also works in conjunction with the Head of Finance and Operations to streamline purchase orders and the delivery of resources which are to be catalogued for use by the school community.

A key goal for the Head of Educational Technology is to ensure that the Technology Centre is a vibrant hub of learning, which is evidenced by a high level of activity and engagement from all school community members. The role holder must be able to define the strategic direction for the use of technology ensuring the needs of all key stakeholders in the school community are assimilated and there is alignment to the schoolwide strategic plan.

The Head of Educational Technology is responsible for four key areas:

  1. Curriculum mapping and technology integration
  2. ICT implementation
  3. Innovative projects
  4. Professional development

The role also manages the provision of instruction, training, and resources in order to facilitate best practice teaching and learning through the use of educational technology tools, systems and processes.

Reports to;

  • Head of School

Manages;

  • Technology Integration Facilitators (TIFs)

Essential Responsibilities and Duties
The Head of Educational Technology will be responsible for:

Curriculum mapping and technology integration

  • develop and implement and continuously review the schoolwide curriculum map (including scope and sequence) for the use of technologies, and the development of the skills to use those technologies.
  • develop strategic planning that enhances teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective educational technologies into the curriculum.
  • support the design and implementation of educational opportunities such as lunchtime activities, after school activities and school wide programmes to develop key competencies in entrepreneurialism and technology.
  • lead the organisation, maintenance and management of the Technology Centre.
  • maintain awareness of best practices, emerging technologies and new potentials in educational technology that may be trialled and adopted within the school.

ICT implementation

  • liaise closely with the Head of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to ensure adequate technology infrastructure (hardware and software) is in place to meet the educational needs of the school community and supports the goals of technology-enhanced curriculum.
  • oversee the work of the ICT team in delivering an efficient integration of the student information and learning management systems so that the Educational Leadership team are able to implement the school’s strategic plan as well as initiatives for continuous school improvement. This includes designing, developing, analyzing and enhancing school education systems and applications (ManageBac, OpenApply, LaunchPad, iSAMS, SeeSaw etc.)

Innovative projects

  • develop and manage key technology and entrepreneurial partnerships (e.g. CMU Create Lab AICE Accelerator/ Harvard Project Zero)
  • develop and manage technology and entrepreneurial programmes and event such as EdTech Accelerators, Innovation competitions, the Technopreneur Academy and bootcamps.

Professional Development

  • design and implement professional development opportunities which support staff, students and parents in developing best practice application of entrepreneurialism and educational technology.
  • plan and conduct parent engagement and training sessions.
  • provide pedagogical and technical coaching that supports staff in the design, development, and implementation of instructional content, that enriches teaching and learning through the use of technology.
  • develop and maintain networks with external organisations and educational technology specialists, to leverage knowledge and resources that develop the key competencies of school stakeholders.

Additional responsibilities will be to:

  • participate in relevant leadership meetings and policy and planning committees to support and inform key stakeholders.
  • work and liaise with PTC to incorporate community involvement with programmes.
  • support the Head of ICT to maintain a positive atmosphere and work environment in the ICT team and foster team spirit and an ethos of customer service.
  • liaise with vendors as required.
  • maintain complete and accurate records to develop meaningful reports.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrates the ability to think strategically and creatively and is able to communicate ideas clearly.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of the IB programmes (PYP, MYP, DP and CP) and IGCSE.
  • Minimum of five years experience working in the educational technologies landscape or in a related field.
  • A degree plus teaching qualification (or equivalent).
  • Higher degree or recognised professional qualification.
  • Evidence of continued relevant professional development.
  • Experience in an international school environment.
  • Proven leadership experience in a relevant field.
  • Proven track record of successful staff and project management.
  • Possess experience of integrating a range of disparate systems.
  • Experience of extracting effective use beyond standard expectations from a school Management Information System (MIS).
  • Able to demonstrate perspective and empathy in equal measure to ensure that a realistic balance is maintained between implementing the technology curriculum and meeting the goals of the academic teams.

Teacher Librarian

The Teacher Librarian designs, implements and evaluates the preK to Grade 12 library programme at GEMS World Academy (Singapore). This role reports directly to the Head of School but is responsible for supporting the Principals of each division of the school so that a high quality curriculum is implemented effectively.

The Teacher Librarian also works in conjunction with the Head of Finance and Operations to streamline purchase orders and delivery of teacher resource books and any resources which are to be catalogued and distributed through the library system.

A key goal for the Teacher Librarian is to ensure that the library is a vibrant hub of learning, which is evidenced by a high level of activity and engagement from all school community members.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

The Teacher Librarian:

Curriculum

  • Creates and implements the preK to 12 Library Skills scope and sequence in line with the IB Standards and Practices.
  • Empowers students to be critical thinkers, researchers, digital citizens (ethical users) of gathered information and enthusiastic readers.
  • Develops innovative models of library services that support the needs and requirements of both IB pedagogy and GEMS teaching standards.
  • Collaborates with Principals, Deputy Principals, Grade Leaders and Subject Leaders to enrich lesson plans by incorporating information literacy skills.
  • Mentors preK to 12 students with their culminating projects i.e. Exhibition, Personal Project, Extended Essay.

Professional Development

  • Promotes the library’s resources by providing workshops to parents on a range of library related topics.
  • Provides professional development opportunities for staff such that the library is used as a hub of learning by the entire school community.
  • Uses networks to ensure the school is informed of the latest educational research and passes this information onto relevant members of the GEMS faculty.

Management and Collection Development

  • Manages the library staff and is responsible for the schoolwide booking system of the library facilities.
  • Submits an annual budget to Head of School which is reflective of the needs of the educational leadership team.
  • Works with the Head of Finance and Operations to ensure purchase orders for all library related resources are cost and time efficient. Ensures library materials arrive before the end of the academic year and are inventoried before the start of the next academic year.
  • Organizes and manages community events e.g. Book Week and Author visits.
  • Fosters positive relationships with external vendors. Those vendors would include but not limited to Follett, Encyclopedia Britannica, Gale, Jstor, Questia, Brain Pop, Turn-It-In, Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Pearson, Pressreader.

Experience and Qualifications (preferred)
